Practical training on shot peening technology
sentenso GmbH has been providing services and innovative equipment for process and quality management in shot blasting and shot peening since 2009. Since then, we have been conducting shot peening training as part of workshops and training courses in both our own technical centre and on-site at companies. The focus of the training is on applications in the aviation and automotive industries, among others.

FAA Training Programme The basis of our wide-ranging training programme is the three-stage shot peening training designed by Electronics Inc. (EI) and accepted by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA):• Level 1: Beginner - Basic knowledge for machine operators
• Level 2: Advanced - User knowledge for process planners, machine programmers and quality inspectors
• Level 3: Professionals - Expert knowledge for process and quality managers
This programme also includes Rotary Flap Peening and recertification training. Students acquire the relevant certificate in training courses at our site or in their own companies. We enrich the mandatory training material with our own content from our many years of experience in the development and securing of shot peening processes. A particular feature is our supplementary practical course for shot peening level 2 in our own technical centre. All essential training topics are deepened with the help of practical exercises in which the students themselves lend a hand under the expert guidance of our trainers.
Customised training content
Nadcap Audit PreparationThis course deals with individual specific tasks and questions of the Nadcap audit, as well as with its significance in the context of the company´s quality management. The trainers place great emphasis on the optimisation of the operational process and quality management in the shot peening process, so that the benefits of the audit become apparent to all participants. This proceeding is intended to overcome widespread reservations about the introduction of new quality standards.
Practical course on residual stresses
The aim of the training is to gradually build up the technical understanding of residual stresses and, in addition, to practice the determination of residual stresses using a simple and extremely fast method of X-ray diffraction.
Product training
Our product training courses are aimed at all users of our innovative products. Even though we put great emphasis to simple and intuitive use and operation, the full technical potential of some process and quality management equipment can be used even better after systematic training.
All EI and sentenso instructors have a certificate of proficiency as well as many years of technical process experience. We provide comprehensive training material for all training courses.

Rotary Flap Peening as a Service -
Process-Safe and Reliable
Our trained and experienced specialists with their advanced equipment are ready for short term on-site operations on aircraft.
Rotary Flap Peening (RFP) offers an excellent option for shot peening repair treatments on aircraft parts or large components. Primarily, this process, which is similar in its effect to shot peening, is used directly on aircraft such as on landing gears, wing suspensions or on window frames damaged by lightning strikes. But also the application for the repair of slight surface damage on dynamically loaded parts such as turbine wheels offers relevant logistical and economic advantages.
With the help of our self-developed RotoFlapMaster system, we carry out the surface treatment very carefully and in conformity with the respective regulations and repair manuals. Our trained and experienced personnel perform these services in accordance with aviation specification AMS2590 in the field and without long lead times.
Execution and Equipment
With rotary flap peening, the enclosure of the components or areas to be processed, which is necessary with conventional shot peening, is not required. The peening media in the form of uniformly sized balls of hard metal is securely bound in a rapidly rotating and flexible textile strip, the so-called flap. As with the shot peening process, the process quality is also determined by peening intensity and coverage. Due to the constant rotational speed of the drive, the process can be safely carried out within the required tolerance range despite the manual processing.
The service is carried out exclusively by our trained and experienced process specialists. They clarify the application with you on site, determine the requirements from regulations and repair manuals, inspect the areas to be machined and check the intensity and coverage. The process reliability and documentation is additionally guaranteed by the preparation of a process data sheet in accordance with AMS2590 and manufacturer-specific regulations.
Our process specialists work with the latest and most innovative equipment, which was developed at sentenso itself in consultation with operators from the aviation industry. The battery-powered RotoFlapMaster in use employs state-of-the-art dynamic drive technology with speeds of up to 10,000 rpm, a very precise 14-bit speed control and reversible operation. Under typical loads, the control keeps the speed constant within a range well below the tolerance of +/- 100 rpm required by the AMS2590.
Beyond the rotary flap service, sentenso can provide the operational equipment itself and the required measuring instruments. As an alternative to on-site implementation, operators can study the process in training courses and workshops at sentenso's technical centre or in-house.

Shot Peening Process Development - Independent and Transparent
The development of shot peening processes requires a special attention to the definition, documentation and reliability of the process parameters. Our experienced experts not only know the procedure from their own professional background, they also have extensive knowledge of suitable peening and measuring equipment to apply this knowledge to your benefit - independently and transparently.
Process development in line with requirements can be carried out either at the user's premises or in our technical center with excellent peening equipment. The procedure follows a standardised scheme, but will be adapted to the individual requirements of the application.
A useful procedure in the development of peening processes begins with the clarification of the component-specific requirements. In addition, any applicable standards and specifications should be checked and interpreted on the basis of knowledge and experience. The next step is to select the appropriate peening and measuring equipment.
The actual development starts with the definition of peening sequences with associated movements of blast nozzles and/or the component. The know-how of our experts is particularly important in the subsequent selection of the respective process parameters. By cleverly combining blast nozzle, movements and peening parameters, an efficient execution of the sequence is determined. The sequence of all sequences results in the completed peening programme.
With the aid of the latest simulation methods, the process development can be shortened and optimised, sometimes considerably. If necessary, this can also be used for the development of movement or robot programmes.
The process development can be carried out very effectively at the user's premises if technical possibilities are available and machine capacities are free. Alternatively, our shot peening technical center at our site in Datteln, Germany is available to you. We have the necessary machine equipment for most peening processes. In addition, we can analyse the results of the process in detail with the aid of extensive measuring devices based on tactile, optical and radiographic methods.
